What and When Is Earth Day?

"Celebrate the Planet"

Earth Day is a "global holiday to celebrate the wonder of life on our planet."

So when is Earth Day?

Well there are actually two days.

  • The first one is on the March equinox, the onset of Spring. The United Nations follows this day founded in 1969 by John McConnell, a peace activist.
  • A second day started in 1970, by a U.S. Senator, as an environmental teach-in event and falls on April 22.

Earth Day promotes sustainable practices and encourages respect for the planet. Pollution, climate change, deforestation, endangered animals, overfishing and other ailments still plague our environment. recycle bins

These concerns have led to over 140 nations to recognize Earth Day.

So don't be confused over the dates, just find a way to participate in taking a day to give back to nature and the environment.

Environmental activism can take many forms.

  • Start a recycling project at home or office,
  • Set up a nature escape for your work mates,
  • Join a local nature group and get active in current environmental issues, or
  • Find a special interest in rainforest animals or marine life.

Now that the question ... When is Earth Day? ... has been answered, what will you do to protect the planet?

Some Malaysian environmental organizations offer special programs and events. Well I hope you took part in Earth Hour and made a committment to the planet.

We'll see what happens next year ... but you can start your own earth day on any day.
