Even if you don't fancy modern skyscrapers, the Petronas Towers and Kuala Lumpur Tower are hard to miss on a visit to Kuala Lumpur.

From nearly any city vantage point, the twin spires rise out of the horizon like a central beacon calling travelers to the heart of the capital city.

The closer the Petronas Twin Towers come into view, the more you appreciate its design elegance and incredible iconic character.

As a photographer's gem, there are a multitude of observation angles that make each tourist snapshot a unique travel memory.

Visit the Petronas Towers during the day to notice the Islamic art traditions in the details and another visit at night as its magical qualities light up.

Petronas Towers: Fascinating Facts

  • Once the tallest building in the world, it still remains in the top three with the Taipei 101 Tower and Shanghai World Financial Tower.
  • Completed in 1997, there are 88 storeys rising to 452 metres (1483 feet) above street level.
  • Petronas Towers
  • Designed by the architecture firm of Cesar Pelli and Associates from the USA.
  • Public access is provided at the skybridge - Levels 41 and 42 -, with no access to top floors.
  • Each tower contains 29 high-speed passenger lifts, 10 escalators and 765 flights of stairs to ferry people to offices.
  • The pinnacles stand at 73.5 metres tall, are made of stainless steel and each took over 19 weeks to fabricate.
  • Using stainless steel helps to reflect the lustre of the equatorial sun and the hi-tech progress of Malaysia.
  • Each tower weighs about 300,000 tons, equivalent to 60,000 adult elephants.
  • On the outside, over 65,000 square metres of stainless steel cladding cover the towers.
  • The towers use over 55,000 square metres of laminated glass that minimizes UV light and solar radiation.
  • Over 160,00 cubic metres of concrete and over 36,000 tonnes of steel beams were used to secure the superstructure.




Petronas Towers: How To Visit The Skybridge

Truth be told the best views of the twin towers are from outside. However, don't forget to take the Skybridge Tour inside to observe the craftsmanship and exquisite art of the interior. petronas towers

Skybridge Tours last about 30 minutes and you can linger on the 41st floor walkway to observe the scenery of the Kuala Lumpur landscape.

Good News: the tickets are free.
Bad News: only 1300 tickets are passed out each day.

How To Get Tickets:

  • Get to Suria KLCC Mall and head for the middle section from the outside entrance from Jalan Ampang.
  • Go into Tower Two and use a small escalator down to the ticket counter across from the Petronas gift shop.
  • Ticket counter opens at 8:30 am, but expect the queue to start as early as 7:30 am.
  • Visitors are allowed entry from 9:00-10:30 am and from 2:30-4:00 pm.
  • Use your ticket anytime during the same day after collection.

Use the Putra LRT line to KLCC station or use a taxi or go on foot to Jalan Ampang and Jalan Pinang and follow the view to nearby Avenue K and the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
