Templers Park Jungle Waterfall

"For A Relaxing Nature Day"

Templers Park jungle waterfall is still a gem.

One of the original great nature outings nearby the city, it has survived golf course and housing encroachment to remain a pleasant place to take family and friends.

Take your choice because there are three nice nature escapes all clumped within a few kilometers:

A trip to Templers Park is really a reason to just spend the day outside. The jungle atmosphere is inviting and there are only a few leeches to remind you that it is the rainforest.

A forest river runs wild over a rocky waterfall and slows downstream to fill up the refreshing swimming pool.

Nested in a slender valley, the pool is surrounded by towering rainforest trees covering the hill slopes.

Grab the kids and pack some finger food and drinks or go solo and enjoy the jungle trail in tranquility. Between the popular pool and the jungle waterfall are plenty of spots for forest picnics or treks.

Take it slow, mind the bugs and explore this remnant tropical rainforest.

Templers Park Jungle Waterfall: Things To Do

Freshwater Swimming Pool - Nothing beats the tropic heat like a jungle river dip. The reinforced and landscaped pool area is a safer outdoor alternative to jumping into a rocky stream.

Find A Picnic Spot - Wander upriver or down river from the pool and find a secluded section of the forest to chill out for lunch, snap some jungle pictures or just read a book. Bring a ground cloth and prepare for a few bug visitors.

Jungle Waterfall Trail - Spend about 30 to 45 minutes one-way on level terrain across streams with concrete planks and crossings to a gentle waterfall about 2 km away. Not too difficult for kids if you're careful and let them swim at the shallow pools before returning.

Loop Around Rainforest Hike - Take the waterfall trail and continue on from atop the left side of the falls, where the trail loops back across three forest streams for another 2.5 km to the swimming pool. A nice opportunity to mix walking for exercise and jungle photography.

Birdwatching - Noted as a refuge for rainforest birds and other wildlife like long tailed macaques, hike the trails or find a quiet spot and hang out with your binoculars and guidebook ready for any feathered arrivals.

Templers Park Jungle Waterfall: General Information

The swimming pool is 500 meters from the parking lot along an uphill tarmac road. Be prepared to carry all your gear and food without a motor. Weekends are busy, so fend off the crowds and find some family space below the pool water drop or on the nearby hill.

Toilet and changing facilities are not so good. There is one bathroom and changing area at the parking lot. But sometimes this is closed if the ranger is not on duty.

Wear your swim costume under your clothes, then find a big tree or a sarong when you need to change back to dry clothes.

Fees and Facilities

  • no entry or parking fee yet (The authorities are making improvements, so expect some fees in the future.)
  • no food or drink available unless hawker stalls set up, usually only on the weekends
  • several covered shelters at pool side and along the trails for a rainy pit stop or picnic timeout
  • camping at waterfall site available

Getting There

archway
  • From Kuala Lumpur head out on Route 1 past Kepong and Selayang and towards Rawang
  • Look for the brown signs for Taman Rimba Komenwel and Hutan Lipur Sg. Kanching; strangely no Templer's Park sign
  • After passing through some road works, the road slopes downhill and past a housing area on the left
  • Look for a small blue sign with just a U-turn arrow that says 500 m
  • Take this first U-turn on the right lane just after the downhill section (If you miss this U-turn continue on for 2 km past the petrol station and turn at the traffic light)
  • Immediately get into the left lane and see a bus stop followed by a left turn into an unfinished archway
  • Follow straight for 100 meters into the parking lot
  • An old sign shows the trail map of the park and an another faded red sign points the way 500 meters to the pool
  • Walk uphill on the tarmac road with the barrier gate to the pool and trails.

"This morning, my son brought it to school where he shared it with the other kids prior to first bell. There were 15 nine and ten year olds jockeying for the best view with "cool" and "awesome" said only the way a child can.

They completely missed the sound of the bell and their teacher came out to see what the delay was. She too fell in love and the book stayed at school to be shared with all the [....] classes over the next few days."
