Set against the foothills, Lata Kekabu rainforest waterfall is a splendid stopover for a few hours of nature refreshment. Located 10 km from Lenggong town and 25 km past Kuala Kangsar, the park (hutan lipur) is one of several run by the Perak Forestry Department. As part of the Bintang mountain range, the forest park still retains tall tropical trees, a meandering stream and a 50 meter waterfall. Many of the trees are labeled for a quick jungle education. There are plenty of picnic spots and shelters along the forest river for a rest stop or a day enjoying the water and scenery. You can trek up to the waterfall or linger just off the riverbank to explore the jungle. Take time to observe your surroundings for wildlife or just shoot some great rainforest photos. The trail ends at the Late Kekabu rainforest waterfall after winding around a few river bends. With a gently rising slope the path is very scenic and easy to walk. A walled waterfall pool allows for swimming just below the falls. Lata Kekabu is a very pleasant side trip if you travel north to Gerik or Kuala Kangsar. Taking the extra time to visit these parks is a good way to reduce stress and revive your spirits on a road journey. Start to explore some of the Hutan Lipur locations in East Malaysia. They may not be spectacular but they are usually special.
